Identifying
Spotted Lanternfly egg masses look like unevenly spread mortar or mud smeared on almost any outdoor surface. Egg masses can contain between 30-50 eggs and are protected with mud-like covering. These eggs can be found from late September to June of the following year. Below is a list of surfaces they can be found on:
- Trees and Woody Shrubs
- Trash Cans
- Mailboxes
- Boulders
- Asphalt/Walkways
- Outdoor Furniture
- Storm/Screen Doors and Windows
- Plant Containers
Destroying
Once you have identified a Spotted Lanternfly egg mass, follow these steps to destroy:
- Get a plastic card or putty knife to scrape egg masses off of surface completely.
- Scrape egg masses into a plastic bag or container filled with rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer.
- Seal bag or container and dispose of in trash receptacle.
